These are the ultimate Mykonos beach clubs to know about

If there’s one thing Mykonos is known for, it’s party-led, fun-loving vibes. If there’s another, it’s the abundance of natural beauty found across the island, namely at its beaches. Combine the two, and, well, you’re in for a good time – day or night. The beach clubs of Mykonos have amassed an almost cult-like status, with revellers returning year-on-year to don swimsuits, let their hair down and indulge in some of the best parties in Europe throughout the summer season.

But Mykonos is an island of contrasts, and for all its good-time beach clubs, there’s an equally chilled-out stretch of sand, ideal for the days when all you want is a cool cocktail in one hand, a good book in the other. Including all-day parties with Champagne on tap, shores overlooking some of the best sunsets on the island, family-friendly sands, and places to visit when you want to escape it all, these are some of the best beach clubs in Mykonos.

Cali Mykonos, Kalafati beach

Escape the hullabaloo of lively beach parties and settle in for a day where nature takes centre stage. The focus might be on the 130-metre infinity pool at the 2024-opened hotel Cali Mykonos, but its beach is worth your attention, too. On the quieter southeast coast of the island and set within a rocky cove, this hotel-adjacent beach is open to non-guests and, with just 24 loungers, is perhaps the best-kept secret in Mykonos. For now. Alongside beach service, the hotel’s restaurant and wellness facilities – which include tennis, padel and a soon-to-open spa with hammam, infrared saunas, cold plunges and treatments – are also bookable. This is the ideal all-in-one destination when you want to avoid the (sometimes overwhelming) Mykonos crowds. Call or email the hotel to book.

Nammos, Psarou beach

Of all the beach clubs on all the beaches in Mykonos, this might be the most well-known. On Psarou beach, a favourite with the international jet-set (and more than its fair share of celebrities), Nammos, now a global beach-club brand with prime seaside locations in Dubai, Cannes and Limassol, is known for its high standards, attention to detail and good vibes – but it all started here in Mykonos, back in 2003. A see-and-be-seen place to be, this is one of the toughest beach clubs in Mykonos to get into; reserve your lounger well in advance or – better still – stay at the 2024-opened Nammos Hotel to skip the queues; each hotel booking comes with two sunbeds at the coveted spot.

Liasti Mykonos, Lia beach

Lia Beach, on the southeast coast of Mykonos, is one of the most peaceful beaches on the island. It’s also one of the best places to scuba dive, home to a PADI-certified school and a sunken shipwreck to explore. If you’re more inclined to stay on dry land, make a beeline to Liasti, a beach club and restaurant with an altogether more chilled-out vibe than many others, in keeping with the laid-back beach it calls home. Open morning through evening, this is not somewhere to visit for a late-night party but is the place to be for a relaxed day on plump sunbeds under straw parasols to shelter from the sun. While not geared towards revellers, the bar menu is extensive, with 14 types of sparkling alone, ranging from prosecco to the €1200 bottle of 2007 Louis Roederrer Cristal Rose, alongside classic cocktails. Best washed down with the sea bass ceviche, a black Angus burger, Greek salad or a good old club sandwich – many of the ingredients used in the dishes are grown in the on-site vegetable garden.

Kalua, Paraga beach

To experience the Mykonos beach-club party scene with less of a spring-break vibe, Kalua hits the sweet spot. Arrive early (which in Mykonos means after 11am) for a few chilled hours of sun, sea and sand before the party gets underway. Lounger service is available, but we’d recommend you take a late-lunch-early-dinner in the chic pagoda-covered restaurant; here, your plates of mezze, salads, sushi and grill will be accompanied by the soulful sounds of singer Ellyz, whose performances become more and more lively as the afternoon goes on. If you’re really ready to party, stay as evening becomes night; most beachgoers – and staff – join in the revelry, which usually starts with Greek-style dancing and is followed by DJ-spun tunes, plenty of Champagne sparklers and even more dancing – well into the small hours.

Scorpios, Paraga beach

Set on the secluded Paraga peninsula, Scorpios – Soho House’s holistic hangout – offers an exquisite backdrop for soaking up island life day and night. Designed to reflect a Greek agora – or gathering place – Athens-based architects K-Studio teamed up with creative director Michael Schickinger and interior designer Annabell Kutucu to create a holistic space offering a beach club, yes, but so much more besides. Chef Alexis Zopas’ globally inspired menu is designed to be shared, featuring dishes such as Syrian muhammara and Peruvian-inspired dorada alongside Greek mezze and freshly caught seafood. You’ll find summer essentials at the Bazaar, including hand-loomed dresses, wafty kaftans and on-trend sunglasses. And at the beach? Scattered spaces – both sand and wooden terraces – are chilled by day but stay for sundown when this corner of Mykonos comes to life with daily music-led sunset rituals that might comprise a bit of acoustic followed by indie rhythms, low-key electro and groovy techno. One thing’s for sure: you’ll be dancing barefoot long into the night; this is boho-chic at its most chic.

JackieO’ Beach Club, Super Paradise beach

On Super Paradise beach, JackieO’ – named after Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who is widely credited with Mykonos’ rise to fame thanks to her visit to the island in the early 60s – is a stylish and welcoming space. With a restaurant, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, and the beach plus regular drag shows through the summer, a visit to JackieO’ always invokes a raucous sense of fun. Don’t miss the Champagne cocktails or any of the 21 JackieO’s signature cocktails, like the JackieO’ Paloma mixed with tequila, mezcal, a homemade spiced tea liqueur and grapefruit soda. There’s no need to book days before and no bouncer to decide whether you are in or out. Come as you are seems to be the motto of this Mykonos stalwart.

Alemagou, Ftelia beach

Some might exclaim, “Yet another boho beach bar in Mykonos?!” And yes, Alemagou is definitely the kind of bohème spot we have come to expect of the island. On the pristine beach of Ftelia, with picture-perfect golden sand and crystalline blue sea, the bar was completed in 2010 by Athens’ celebrated architecture firm K-Studio and blends traditional Cycladic shapes and crafts – such as the pergola roof and gourd-shell lighting – with contemporary minimalist aesthetics. Unlike some other hangouts, Alemagou cohabits with the beach in a non-intrusive, low-impact way; a place where boho parents watch on as their child builds sandcastles by day – and groups of friends frolic to dance-led tunes under the moonlight by night. Beefbar on the Coast, Agios Ioannis Beach

Squishy sunbeds topped by bright-red, square-shaped sun shades that wouldn’t look out of place in a Slim Aarons photo might be the stand out feature at The Coast by Bill&Coo’s beach, were it not for the fact that you can order lunch from Beefbar directly to your lounger. Facing the beautiful bay of Agios Ioannis and its pretty little church of the same name, this sheltered stretch of sand is accessible by boat, via a private jetty, and the elegant crowd includes hotel guests, Mykonos’ stylish set, and those who moor their yachts out front; often all three rolled into one. Sandwiched between the restaurant and the beach, the Beefbar-led beach menu includes mini kobe beef burgers, braised Angus beef quesadillas and the restaurant’s signature kobe beef gyro.

Fokos, Fokos Beach

While not a beach bar in the typical sense, offbeat Fokos is a simple but excellent beachside tavern, uncommon enough on today’s glittering, crowded Mykonos scene to be noteworthy. Forget caviar, lobster, T-bone and Champagne – this is a place for grilled fish alongside a mezze of lentil salad, tabouleh, smoked aubergine dip, meatballs and other small-plate Greek dishes, plus a large selection of local wines and a complimentary mastika to wash it all down. The name of this still near-secret taverna is passed on in whispers by its regular clientele who would hate for it to become fashionable. The owner, Marissa Taboulchanas, is also a ceramist and presents her work – pendants, bowls and other tableware – in a tiny shop inside the restaurant. Fokos beach itself, just a few feet away, is quite remote and, except for a few horses, quad bikes and less than a dozen often nude swimmers, is largely unfrequented. This spot offers a welcome break in the middle of an often-hectic stay on Mykonos. Isabelle Zigliara
