Markos Kafouros recently held a productive working meeting at the Greek Ministry of Tourism with Vasia Koutsoukou, Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development, to discuss key priorities for the sustainable growth of the Cyclades.
The meeting focused on several important issues affecting the islands and their tourism sector. Among the main topics was the need to extend the deadline for municipalities to complete techno-economic studies required for the development and utilization of thermal springs. Such an extension would provide local authorities with the necessary time to prepare comprehensive proposals and unlock the potential of these valuable natural resources.
Another significant issue raised was the reinforcement of the Cyclades Tourism Department with additional personnel. Strengthening the Regional Tourism Service is considered essential to improving the support provided to local destinations and ensuring the effective implementation of tourism policies across the islands.
The discussion also addressed the current tourism season and the challenges faced by destinations experiencing lower visitor demand. Particular emphasis was placed on increasing promotional efforts for these areas, especially as the important last-minute booking period approaches. Targeted marketing initiatives can play a vital role in attracting more visitors and supporting local economies.
